What Makes Remodeling in Dallas Different
Dallas homes don't behave like homes everywhere else. Two decades of building here gives us specific answers to specific problems.
Heat and humidity drive the calendar
Dallas summers wreck the schedule if you don't plan for them. We sequence interior demo and finishes around the hottest stretch, oversize HVAC for additions, and stock acclimation time into the floor and cabinet schedule so nothing warps in August.
Expansive clay shifts everything
The black gumbo soil under most North Texas homes moves with every wet season. We check for foundation movement before touching a load-bearing wall, and we work with structural engineers we've trusted for years on additions and second stories.
Every city permits differently
Dallas, Plano, Coppell, and the smaller DFW suburbs each run their own permitting process. We've pulled enough of them to know which jurisdictions need which drawings, and which parts of a project can keep moving while permits are still in review.
Older Dallas homes were built closed off
Opening them up usually means a structural beam, an HVAC rework, and a kitchen relocation in the same job. We plan all three together at the design stage, before any walls come down.

Meet the Owner
Hi, I'm Erik Finholm.
I built my first house from the ground up in 2006. I wasn't trying to start a company back then, I just wanted to see if I could take a home all the way from foundation to finishes and do it well. That first build set the standard I've held to ever since.
In the years after, I spent my time on remodels and new builds across the greater Dallas area, learning something from every project and getting to know the tradespeople and suppliers I still rely on today. In 2018 I started Fin Home Custom Contracting to do things my own way: real craftsmanship paired with a process that's honest and easy for homeowners to be part of.

What does a remodel cost in Dallas?

How long will my project take?
Bathrooms typically run 4–8 weeks; kitchens 8–12 weeks; whole-home remodels 3–6 months. We share a written schedule before we start.
Do you really offer fixed pricing?
Yes. We finalize plans and selections before construction so we can give you a real, fixed price. Change orders only happen if you change the scope.
What does your warranty cover?
1 year on workmanship, 2 years on major systems, and 10 years on structural, written into every contract.
Can we live in our home during the remodel?
Usually yes, we plan phasing and dust control around your daily life. For some whole-home projects, temporary housing is the cleaner option.
